what can you say? the song is a summer jam, and these 3 artists all agree that it definitely goes. 50, JoJo, & Juelz Santana all get their T-Pain on as they cover/remix this joint.

50 Cent - Can’t Believe It

“DAMN this shit make me sound goooood man”..  don’t shoot me 50 but i disagree.

Juelz.

Juelz Santana - Make Em Say Yeah feat. Skull Gang

nah man.. vocoder jus don’t work for everyone. including you. sorry.

next up is JoJo,

JoJo - Can’t Believe It

listen to this one! this girl got tunes. and she’s no stranger to the cover game, Sean Kingston’s Beautiful Girl & SWV’s Weak. i can’t even tell if she’s usin vocoder on this one, cuz her pipe blowin skills are that goooood. she KILLS it!!

Saadiq’s new album is droppin’ tomorrow 9/16/08!
before coppin The Way I See It, he’s put it up on his myspace for the world to listen to. he’s put up his whole album, except for the track Let’s Take a Walk, so that u can preview it before buying the whole album, and so you can cop only the specific tracks u want.
here are a few tracks that have caught my ear:
Raphael Saadiq - Calling
Raphael Saadiq - Sometimes
Raphael Saadiq - Just One Kiss feat. Joss Stone
Raphael Saadiq - Never Give You Up feat. Stevie Wonder & CJ
and for the track that’s missing from his myspeez..
Raphael Saadiq - Let’s Take a Walk
i’m diggin the album and its old school feel and basically the whole direction he’s decided to take on this time around.
and is it me, or does Stevie Wonder only appear on Never Give You Up as a harmonicist and not a vocalist?

be sure to check out a clip of Saadiq performing Dance Tonight from his performance at Bimbo’s a few weeks ago.
for more clips check out Justine’s youtube.

Yeezy is all about sampling. and he’s a MF’in BEAST at it.

this video has every song sampled, mainly from his released albums. this video speaks for itself, well itself and Kanye. (via DCtoBC)

a couples years ago my external harddrive crashed (ughh). it had hella mixtapes based off all the samples Kanye’s used in all his productions. this included productions from his own albums, and all the music he produced for other artists. i don’t even remember the names of the mixtapes.. probably Kanye West - The Samples Vol. 1, 2, 3, etc.. or maybe it was the Akademic Jeanius Mixtapes.. either way i dont remember. but for now, i’m pretty sure this is as close as i’m gonna get.

and if you’re interested in his whole production history and the songs he’s sampled from, u can check out a pretty up-to-date list at Kanye West’s Production Discography

if you’re too lazy to YouTube or Imeem these old school joints, i ran into a 79 song sample set here via (Kevin Nottingham)

a few months ago Lu posted the link to the Resurgence of the Soul Sample, “Highlighting the original soul songs sampled by today’s artists”

its real coo listening to all these old schools songs and seeing how it’s been manipulated and interpreted in today’s urban culture. it’s kinda like reading a history book, but in this case it’s listening into history & the past. it’s a great reminder of all the good music that a lot of today’s music has come from, and it’s something that people shouldn’t forget. through the production and use of samples, it keeps the old jams alive.

i hope that when people listen to today’s music, they don’t listen to only the lyrics, but that they also pay close attention to its production, and hopefully are inspired to research the og jams that these new songs come from.

anyway, Hip Hop is fuckin’ AMAZING.

FREE SHOW! TOMORROW 10/1: David Banner, Talib Kweli, & Little Brother!

Flow.TV presents:

FREE SHOW called Al Fresco 2008.

Wednesday, October 01, 2008 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM

“The 20th annual fall welcome-back festival for the campus community is sure to be fun, have food, eye-catching entertainment and a lot of useful information for the incoming freshmen. Three of Bay areas big artists will perform at this event.

Talib Kweli
Headliner for the event, Talib Kweli, is one of the best-known and critically, if not commercially, successful rappers in alternative hip hop. The Brooklyn bred rapper’s hard-hitting music has educated and simultaneously entertained many. To make him even bigger, both Jay-Z and 50 Cent, at the peak of their fame, stated Talib Kweli as one of their favorite rappers.

David Banner
On the other hand, David Banner will perform his lyrical craft, roaring tracks and b-boy stance music. While past tracks like the cranked Like a Pimp from his debut and the electro-bouncy Play has helped him build a loyal fan base, the release of The Greatest Story Ever Told has taken him on an even larger scale.

Little Brother
Completing the Line-up is the entertaining duo of Little Brother. Their debut album The Listening (2003) was highly acclaimed, and well received by audiences and critics. The North Carolina group is the brain child of Phonte, Rapper Big Pooh and Producer 9th wonder. The group tours frequently with their official DJ, Flash”

and if this set is anything like the event at The Regency..

“Each of the acts will take the stage backed by heralded 10-Piece live band Rhythm Roots All Stars for unique versions of the songs they have made mainstays.”

Mos Def will be in town around the same time. wouldn’t be surprised if he popped up for tomorrow’s show or the 10/2 show @ the Regency in SF.

see yall there!

Throwback Thursdays!

First collab post that I can think of, and subject very well worth it.  and well fitting I must say.  Jazzanova is a German-based DJ / Producer collective, admired for holding their place at the forefront of such subgenres known as nu-jazz or jazz-house.  They got an album coming out on the 21st titled Of All the Things.  This track might even be reason enough to check the whole album because Phonte killls it.  “It’s like pissing on a pile of shit.” as Gabriel de la Cruz would put it.  Meaning to say, if you didn’t think the production on this shit was dope enough, Tay actitivates something more too it, makes it linger more, you dugg?  I got my dancing shoes on though, perfect for my night on the town with yours truly, the Certified Fresh family.
