140 die in Philippine storm, toll expected to rise

Authorities expected the death toll from Tropical Storm Ketsana [locally known as Ondoy], which scythed across the northern Philippines on Saturday, to rise as rescuers penetrate villages blocked off by floating cars and other debris. The storm dumped more than a month’s worth of rain in just 12 hours, fueling the worst flooding to hit the country in more than 40 years. At least 140 people died, and 32 are missing.

On a personal tip, I hella feel for the people that have been hit by this typhoon. I was just in the Metro Manila area 2 weeks ago, and even then it was raining hard. And everyday! But what I experienced is not even close to what they’ve gone through now. I’m really hoping and praying that all my family over there is okay, as I am sure everyone else is too.
